The Tibetan Association Of Northern California (TANC) is a non-profit organization created to promote the following interests of the Tibetan community:
  1. To show unflinching support for the leadership of H.H. the Dalai Lama.
  2. To free Tibet of Chinese occupation.
  3. To revive, preserve and promote Tibet's unique culture.
  4. To maintain the Tibetan identity.
  5. To raise awareness of Tibet in the world in general and the U.S. in particular.

Nature herself made Tibet an independent nation by raising her up to the roof of the world and surrounding her with the world's mightiest mountains. She remained independent for over four thousand years until communist China's brutal occupation in 1959, which can be thought of as the Tibetan Holocaust.

China has been systematically eliminating Tibet's unique culture and national identity for the last four decades. Some readers may not realize that the destruction is continuing even as you read these lines. Those Tibetans who escaped from occupied Tibet are trying to keep our culture and identity alive. Unfortunately, like our Black Neck crane, we too are facing extinction.

Tibetans are asking for our right to coexist with the rest of the world. And the right to decide for ourselves what is good for us.

We truly believe that our philosophy of respect for all forms of life, compassion for all sentient beings and faith in the universal brotherhood is a very viable alternative to the increasingly violent and isolated way of life in the world today.
