Namchod Kyetsel (“Garden of Intellects”) is a blessed name given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Tibetan Language School of the Tibetan Association of Northern California (TANC). The main purpose of this committee is to connect the parents of the students attending Namchod Kyetsel to school activities and announcements. Namchod Kyetsel continues to be a role model for other aspiring Tibetan communities in North America. Through regular participation in various Bay Area cultural and social events, the organization is able to highlight the unique Tibetan heritage and culture in the region. The school is unique in that it focuses not only on language learning but also seeks to preserve the Tibetan language, culture, music, performing arts, and the traditions of Tibet.
The Sunday school currently enrolls 204 children from the age of 2 to 18. The school is overseen by an Education council, managed by the Principal and the TANC board, and supported by the Parent Association. With the financial support of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, TANC has been able to successfully implement its Tibetan Music and Dance Performances and Education program over the last 7 years and we continue to do so in the future.
