TANC Committees

The Tibetan Association of Northern California (TANC) operates multiple internal committees to manage community welfare, education, finance, and events from its community center at 5200 Dalai Lama Avenue in Richmond, California.

TANC Committees

• Health Committee: Oversees community wellness programs, health promotion, and medical clinics.
• Building Committee: Leads the search, evaluation, and recommendation process for acquiring a permanent site or building for the Association, ensuring the decision serves the community’s long-term needs and is made responsibly with membership funds.
• Scholarship Committee: Handles student scholarship applications and awards, such as the TANC x Betsy Gordon Scholarship.
• Namchod Kyetsel Parents Committee: Connects families and supports the Namchod Kyetsel Tibetan Language School.
• Advisory Council & TANC Board Election Committee: Assists with governance, advisory oversight, and board member nominations.
• Lhakar Committee: “Lhakar” (ལྷག་དཀར, “White Wednesday”) is a grassroots movement among Tibetans to actively preserve and celebrate Tibetan identity, culture, language, and way of life, traditionally observed on Wednesdays (the day associated with the His Holiness The Dalai Lama). The TANC Lhakar Committee carries this spirit forward within the local community, encouraging members — especially youth — to practice and take pride in their Tibetan heritage year-round.
